Fit In

There must be plenty of people in this world that are going through their lives thinking, like me, that they have never really “fitted in” with much at all. So often feeling like the outsider in a group, uncomfortable, an actor, a fraud, an oddity. So often yearning to be one of the planks on the ship of life instead of a splinter. I once hit on a business plan, open a bar in the centre of town. It would be called “The Lone Wolf.” You would be received in silence at the door and escorted to a booth where a small table and a single chair were ready for you. It is table service to avoid a trip to the bar. You can pull a curtain across if you require more privacy or leave it open so you can look at other Lone Wolves just like you. It is here that you can avoid small talk, sitting in peace with your insular thoughts, watching the shy world go by. The drinking of alcohol is permitted but not encouraged, too much drink will lead to “big talk”. You would be compelled to reach out to another wolf after a couple of pints, the world would seem more colorful and full of possibility, you would become braver, funnier…sociable. It would upset the other customers. No, it is best to stick with a Shandy Bass and a packet of cheese and onion to get the full benefit of the place. As you open the packet and raise the glass to your lips you can sit back in your chair, fiddle with your apps and raise a silent toast “to absent friends” and you will be ecstatic …at last, a place where you fit in.
